QuickStart Tennis Program for beginner players - watch this site for the next scheduled date, hopefully in December
QuickStart Tennis is a format used to help kids twelve and under learn and play the game. To make it easier for them, a few things have changed. The court sizes. The racquet sizes. The balls. The scoring system. Even the net height.

Now any child between the ages of five and ten (5-6, 7-8, and 9-12) can start playing tennis almost immediately - even if he or she has never picked up a racquet before.

WCTA held its' first, free QuickStart clinic for the 2009 season on Sunday, April 5th at the school courts on Texan Blvd. We are using the three courts on the SW side by the baseball field, so park on the lot next to the Texan Tennis white "shack".

THE NEXT QUICKSTART CLINIC IS TENTATIVELY SCHEDULED FOR DECEMBER - WEATHER AND HOLIDAYS PERMITTING. WE WILL NOTIFY YOU AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

If you are interested in having your child or children participate, please send us an email (you can click on Contact Us and send it via this web site) letting us know your child's (or childrens) name, age and phone number. Also, please include the email address for notification just in case it rains, as we will try to notify everyone by 1:30 if we have to cancel.

Actual matches are planned for those QST players who played last year and we will be expanding our starter program for the new kids who are joining us for the first time.

Any parents who would like to volunteer to help out would be much appreciated. Please let us know in the email if you would be available and interested.

We plan to hold two QST clinics a month, weather permitting, throughout the summer.

Our last QuickStart Clinic for 2008 was November 16th.
Our average attendance ranged from about 15 to 20 players. And we had more volunteers each clinic. Many thanks to them for their continued support.

Photos can be seen on the Photo Album page. The are currently being updated, please visit often!

Thanks to all who helped with our first season and to the great support of the kids - who were so well-behaved and interested! And, without their parents, none of them would have been there, so thanks to them also!

Please click on the "Links" tab for the web site to learn more about QuickStart Tennis.

If you have a child that is interested, please contact WCTA through the "Contact Us" tab.
  2009 JUNIOR TENNIS CAMPS/CLINICS
There are two local tennis clinics and camps available this summer in Wimberley.

Wimberley Texan Tennis coach, Greg Howard held the 2009 WIMBERLEY TEXAN TENNIS CLINIC June 1st - June 4th.

WOLF'S TENNIS is offering tennis camps this summer.

Half-day morning sessions will be available every Monday thru Thursday from early June until early August. The camps will start at 9:00 AM each day and last until Noon.

Each four-day session will cost $125 per student.

The camps are designed around each junior player's tennis experience and age. To find a camp session for your camper, email Coach John Wolf at wolfstennis@austin.rr.com and provide the following information - the camper's name, gender, age, address, tennis experience and nighttime phone numbers.

Wolf's Tennis Camp is located at 800 RR 12 in Wimberley, directly across from Hill Country Natural Foods.

WCTA will again sponsor several junior players for each camp/clinic. You do not need to be a WCTA member for the Wimberley Texan Tennis Camp.

Please let Coach Wolf know you are a WCTA member to be eligible for a sponsorship to Wolf's Tennis camps.
WCTA HELD A FREE BEGINNER CLINIC ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 27, 2008.
We sponsored our sixth free clinic for beginners on Saturday, October 27, 2007. Special thanks to Ron Mazzarella, Committee Chair and Coach John Wolf for his fabulous expertise and fun with the kids. We celebrated with Halloween prizes and lots of fun!
(photos coming soon).

Tennis Welcome Centers, like the name says, "tennis is the game and everyone's welcome to play"! Learning to play is fun and as easy as finding a local park, school courts, or a tennis club. Right from your computer, join an introductory tennis program taught by a certified teaching professional. Start by going to tenniswelcomcenter.com
and enter your zip code to find a list of participating facilities (such as WCTA) in your area. It's that simple.

Coach Wolf (an Honorary WCTA Member) did a fantastic job working with the kids - we aren't sure who had more fun - the kids or Coach Wolf! Sincere appreciation goes to him for giving his time and energy for such a worthy cause.

Special thanks also go to WCTA Special Events Chairperson Ron Mazzarella who organized the event.

All the students had a terrific time and especially enjoyed the drills that were rewarded with prizes. Thanks go to the Austin USTA Texas Section for some of the prizes and to WCTA.

WCTA has begun a special TennisWelcomeCenter.com program for students at St. Stephen's Episcopal School. The participants range from grades 3 thru 8 and are being held in cooperation with SSES teacher/coach, Sarah Sherwood and WCTA president, Bob Kerrigan. Events are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week.

   Local Tennis Professional John Wolf
John Wolf is a U.S.P.T.A. Level 1 Tennis Instructor. The WCTA Board of Directors, at their May 11, 2004 meeting unanimously voted to give him an Honorary Membership.

In 1998, he was ranked No. 1 in his age division in the State of Texas. He currently teaches year round in Wimberley. He has produced numerous state ranked junior players through the years. Designed with an emphasis on fundamentals and match play, his summer camps produce visible results for junior campers. Coach Wolf conducts his camps to meet individual student's needs. He watches his students play and knows what they need to do to get the most from his camps.

WCTA 2007 Summer "Kids To Camp" Program sends 16 juniors to area tennis camps
With funds raised from the 2006 Ladies Benefit League, sponsorships from the 2007 May Benefit Fundraiser and various USTA grants, WCTA was able to send 16 deserving junior players to various tennis camps this summer.

We sent two juniors to Texas State University under Coach Tory Plunkett's summer program. And players attended WHS Texan Tennis Summer Camp with Coach Greg Howard and Coach Dick Smith, as well as Wolf's Tennis, under Coach John Wolf.

One of our goals is to "grow the game" of tennis and through these junior tennis camps, we are able to reach this goal.

Tennis - a sport for all ages...
