Luck of the Draw Doubles Fundraiser benefiting The Wimberley Tennis Center at Blue Hole
Saturday, June 26th @ 8:30am
Please come and play or watch, or just come for pizza - all donations will be greatly appreciated, regardless of the amount of your participation that day! PLEASE LET BOB NIEL KNOW IF YOU WILL BE EATING LUNCH. HIS EMAIL IS: bob@npglass.com
What is Luck of the Draw doubles, you ask? Well, we’ll tell you!
The format:
1) All players pick a slip of paper out of a hat for court assignment (1 through 6), and partners.
2) Each slip of paper has a number and a letter; i.e. 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B, 4A, 4B 5A, 5B, 6A, 6B.
3) The two players who draw 1A will be partners and play on Court 1. The two players who draw 1B will be partners and play on Court 1 against the 1A doubles team. The two players who draw 2A will be partners and play on Court 2. The two players who draw 2B will be partners and play on Court 2 against the 2A doubles team and so on until all 6 courts have teams.
4) There is a 5 minute warm up and then play will begin. Teams will flip for serve. Play will be no-ad scoring and will commence for 20 minutes.
5) The team that is ahead in games or points at the end of 20 minutes of play will be the winners of the match. The winning team will advance to the next court. Example: The winning team on Court 3 will advance to Court 2 while the losing team will retreat to Court 4. The winning team of Court 1 match will remain on Court 1.
6) After advancing or retreating to the next court, the teams split for the next round and play will resume for another 20 minute match. At the end of the next 20 minutes, wining teams will again advance to a higher numbered court and losing teams will move to a lower numbered court.
7) Play will be for 2 hours. At the end of the 2 hours of play, the team on Court 1 that is ahead in games or points of that last match will be declared Champions and the losing team will be the Finalist. Each team will receive an award for their outstanding results.
8) However, all the players participating will be the real Champions with their generous support and contribution to The Wimberley Tennis Center at Blue Hole.

MAY IS NATIONAL TENNIS MONTH, so WCTA held it's Annual Benefit Fundraiser on May 19 & 20. Proceeds went toward the Tennis In The Park Program and the Kids To Camp Program. Our tournament sponsors are the real "heros" during our largest fundraising event of the year. They are the ones who are responsible for our continued growth! (2007 photos to follow soon).
2007 TOURNAMENT SPONSORS WERE:
NPGlass - donated all the beautiful glass trophies for the adult events.
"ACE" SPONSORS: Carpenter Insurance Chuck's CATA Classic Climb On! Products Craters & Freighters Deer Creek of Wimberley Lynda & John Greer, Overlook Plaza Mounger & Campbell, L.L.P. Myers Concrete Construction, LP Ozona National Bank Red Corral Ranch Wells Fargo Bank NA Wolf Tennis
"SUPER CHAMP" SPONSORS: Brookshire Brothers Jan & Cliff Strickland
"CHAMPION" SPONSORS: Corky's Barber Shop Cypress Creek Cafe King Feed Pat L. Murphy Group
So many volunteers helped that we actually had to tell some of them they weren't needed after all and they could go watch the matches! Many thanks to our WCTA members who helped us so much.
The Junior and Parent/Child events were a "hit" again this year. And, the teams from St. Stephen's Episcopal School were lots of fun to watch. Their enthusiasm was contagious: this was the first tournament for some of them and some had never played a real "match" before. The parents watching seemed to be having fun too, in spite of the heat.
FROM THE WCTA BOARD OF DIRECTORS, AND ALL WCTA MEMBERS, THANK YOU TO EVERY PLAYER, FOR WITHOUT YOU - THERE WOULD BE NO TOURNAMENT!
2007 John Newcombe's Weekend for Two Adults winner is WCTA member, John Schick. Congratulations John! | |
